Mr. Cheng Sui Wai, 51 years old, he has been in this hobby for thirteen year. His aqua-shops are located at Tung Choi Street that is the famous aqua-street in Hong Kong. About ten years before, he started with a small aqua-shop and now become two of famous aqua-plant reseller in the Hong Kong market. His shops are mostly sell aquatic plants and related peripheral products, he is a skillful planter. From 2006, Wai started to participate the ADA contest, the top ranking he got is 195. This year, the result is out of his expectation, he brings Hong Kong to get the second champion of the IAPLC.

1.) When you know you are the champion, what do you feel? How this result will inference your creation on the coming future? 
When I know I am the champion of the ADA contest, I feel excited and thinking about work harder must have return. This winning layout, I spend more than a year to prepare, I have reference to a lot of China sense that would also guide me to create my layout on the future. 

2.) What influence you and when you starting aquascape as your hobby? 
Every year after the ADA contest book published, I must buy the book and read through it again and again. When I find some layout that I like, I would replicate the layout once, if the visual effect is good, I will develop it and put in some imagination. It is more interest than just planting before and I have become an aquascape fever.  
3.) What elements inspire your layout idea?  
There is only one thing, referencing to the mother nature.  

4.) In your mind, what level of aquascape in China Hong Kong? What can improve? What you expect the aquascapers here in the future? 
The level of aquascape in Hong Kong is on the top level, there is a lot of people like aquatic planting. Most of my customer are not participate the aquascape contest, that why the percentage of winning tank is comparative small. The trend shows that newbees are on planting side rather than aquascaping side, hope the trend can be shift on 2009.  

5.) What lighting system, substrate and fertilizer you preferred? 
I like to use ADA NA tube and ADA substrate. On fertilizer, I prefer TMG.  

6.) What type of aquatic plant and fish you like most? 
For aquatic plant, my flavors are Monosolenium tenerum and Fissidens fontanus. Pepper Tetra is my flavor fish.  

7.) When there is algae issue, how you tackle?  
When algae blooming, I would use Amano Shrimp, I will put around thirty shrimps to every 60L of water. It is very effective to clean up algae in a very short time.  

8.) What recommendation or advise to the newbees? 
The new comer should participate more competition that would easy to enhance our aquascape skill, you have to read through other’s layout and the contest result so as to explore other’s experience.  

9.) As one of the leading seller in the aquatic plant market, what do you feel the potential on this market? Do you think the agent can do more to promote this hobby?  
Actually, the aquatic plant market in Hong Kong is comparative small, to survival in this niche market, you must put a lot of passion. The agent should review the market trend closely in order to understand the customer need.  

There are always full of customers when we go to Wai’s shop, some are enjoying the aquascape at the different tank; some like a treasure hunter sourcing new plant; some are listening to the explanation from the salesman. We like to see the developing and growing pattern on every aquascape layout every week, especially if there is a new type of plant or a new type of rocks used in the layout. We would observe the condition of the plant, because it give us a good reference to use it on the future so we don’t have to go through the try and error stage.
